Independent reference · Facts sourced from CPSC, ENERGY STAR and DOE

Methodology

ItemRecalls.com is an independent index built from official U.S. government data sources. We don't issue recalls, verify hazards ourselves, or represent any manufacturer — we aggregate what's already public and make it searchable by model number.

Where the data comes from

  • Recall notices, remedy details, and unit counts: the CPSC Recalls API
  • Incident and complaint counts: SaferProducts.gov public exports
  • Energy certification and cost estimates: ENERGY STAR product datasets and the DOE Compliance Certification Database

How text is normalized

CPSC titles often arrive in ALL CAPS or as shouting fragments. On ingest, any string that's more than 60% uppercase letters is converted to sentence-style Title Case, while genuine initialisms (GE, LG, UPC, GFCI, CPSC, LED) stay capitalized. Model numbers are never case-folded or altered — they're stored and displayed exactly as printed.

Verification

Every recall page shows a "verified" date — the day our systems last confirmed the record against the live CPSC notice. Scope and remedies can change after that date, which is why every page links back to the official notice and asks you to confirm there before acting.
